Priorities

I used to just own a beauty college; now I am a student in the massage therapy program and will be completing the course in December 2007. Being a school owner and a student at the same time has taught me about commitment, perseverance and discipline, while also giving me purpose, even though I have been a writer and educator for 25 years in the beauty industry.

I have learned several things from this experience:

• Your school experience is what you make it-there are no exceptions.

• Attendance is as important as getting up in the morning and brushing your teeth. Many students have daily life challenges. Some use them as excuses for not following class schedules, not attending classes or not completing intern massages on time. The old saying goes: "If it is going to be, it's up to me!"

• Tardiness, laziness, and excuses only prevent you from success. If you are late to work or school, it throws everything off schedule. Making your intern massage clients wait instead of taking them at their scheduled appointment time causes you to run late, lose energy, and be unable to really tune in to your clients.

• Discipline + Desire = Success

• Integrity = Prosperity
