Cortiva Institute Schools of Massage Therapy will open its 12th location at 2030 South 314th St. in Federal Way, Washington. The school is currently recruiting students for its class start, set for May 9, 2011, at the new location.

Massage therapy continues to be among the fastest growing career fields, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's 2010-2011 Occupational Outlook Handbook. In fact, the handbook states that employment for massage therapists is expected to increase 19 percent through 2018, faster than average for all occupations. A recent issue of Bloomberg Business Week named massage therapy as one of the top 10 careers for 2011.

Leanne Dowd is the campus director for the new Federal Way campus. Dowd has worked as a senior instructor with Cortiva and has been in massage education for 12 years, filling a number of roles, including registrar, faculty manager, student services manager and instructor.

"Leanne has taught every class in our curriculum and is a favorite with students because of her ability to build rapport and bring the material alive for a broad spectrum of learning styles. In addition, her experience in massage school administration and faculty supervision will be a huge asset to our mission of building a new school," said Dina Bennett, president of Cortiva's two Washington state campuses in the Seattle area.

For many, massage therapy tops the list for realizing monetary and spiritual rewards within a manageable time frame.

"Massage therapy affords great flexibility," added Bennett, "which is one of the reasons it is often cited as a top career for today's job seeker. Massage therapy is a career that fits around your life, versus life fitting around your career."
