Local Church and Massage School Team Up to Offer Free Meals and Free Massages

Posted to MediaSyndicate.com (Mar 02, 2009): New Jerusalem Baptist Church, the Snellville Georgia faith-based organization, that kicked-off of their weekly "Free Community Meal Mondays" in December of 2008 for local residences in need has teamed up with Gwinnett College's Massage Therapy Students to offer free chair massages for families that attend the weekly event.

The Free Meal started out as an effort to assist the growing homeless population in Gwinnett County. It has branched off to include families that currently have a home and may be experiencing challenging circumstances, such as layoffs and company closings. Gwinnett has an unemployment rate, according to economagic.com, of 6.3 percent compared to the State of Georgia's Unemployment Rate of 7.5 percent and the National Rate of 7.6 percent.

"We are excited about the students at Gwinnett College who are using their community service hours to assist with helping families with feeling better emotionally and physically." stated Elijah Collins, Jr., founder and Pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, "We are in stressful times and to have the ability to offer a free meal, free clothing and a chair massage at no costs and no strings attached is priceless"

New Jerusalem Baptist Church and its members have been passing out flyers in the community and at their places of employment striving to be a resource and inspiring families to hang on. They have served over 200 families since December of 2008. They also offer transportation to the Monday night event for families that need a ride and live within a 15 mile radius. The event starts at 6 p.m. every Monday.
