Massage Therapy Foundation Announces 2016 Student Case Report Contest Winners

The Massage Therapy Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 Student Practitioner Case Report Contest. This year, the Grand Prize Gold Award has been awarded to Alta Schwab (pictured above) from the Center for Neuromatic Studies in Clearwater, Florida. Her winning case report was titled "The Use of Massage to Increase the Performance of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Athlete by Increasing Range.” As the first place winner, Schwab will receive a $2,500 cash award, contingent upon undergoing the peer review process with the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (IJTMB) or another peer reviewed scholarly journal. Additionally, she will be invited to present her report at the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) National Convention that takes place in September 2017 in Pasadena, California.

"I am very grateful to have been chosen for this honor and excited about the publication process. I am excited about the opportunities that have already opened up as a result of this award. The Massage Therapy Foundation's generosity has also been very impressive to me. I learned a lot throughout the process of performing and writing this case report about following a treatment plan from beginning to end and being able to see and track the progress,” stated Schwab. “Putting what I learned into words for the case report was very illuminating as I got to look back on the whole process and try to make sense of what took place and why."

Brandy Sharpe from MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada has received the Bronze Award. Her case report was titled "Massage Therapy as a Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis Affecting the Wrist and Hand: A Case Report.” Sharpe will be awarded a $1,500 cash prize, contingent upon undergoing the peer review process with the IJTMB or another peer reviewed scholarly journal.

The honorable mention award went to Kianoosh Esraghian from Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, for a report titled “Effectiveness of Massage Therapy in Improving Range of Motion and Posture of Shoulder and Cervical R.”
