Patrick Hicks, 47, a recent graduate of Cortiva Institute-Seattle School of Massage Therapy, decided that after working for years as a carpenter and wilderness EMT, "I wanted to find a profession that was a continuous dance between body, mind and spirit," and so he decided to pursue a career as a professional massage therapist.
Originally from Ashland, Oregon, Hicks currently works in private practice as well as part time performing assuasive massage for Discovery Wellness Center in Seattle, Washington. As for switching careers, Hicks explains, "I tweaked my back while playing softball and went to receive a massage at Cortiva's student clinic. While I was getting worked on, it just clicked. I've always believed in the benefits of massage and have used it most of my adult life."
And even though he has received his certificate in professional massage therapy, says Hicks, "The learning never stops, and it is a continuous dance between mind-body-spirit. When you help someone relinquish their pain, it is a wonderful feeling."
